I hadn’t planned on letting my kid watch TV until she was 4.
Today we watched 2 episodes of Daniel Tiger, and 1 and a half episodes of Sesame Street.
To those hold out parents who have been able to keep screen time from their toddlers during life under lockdown, more power to you. It’s not easy. To those who would shame me, citing data and anecdotal info on early exposure to screens, I would say: show me the data on what happens to a child (and her parents) when that child is not allowed to play with other children for months on end. Or interact with adults other than her parents. There are no rules or best practices anymore.
Here’s what I’ve been wondering:
Will we eat in a restaurant again in 2020?
Will my child have a playdate in the next few months?
When will we use playgrounds again?
The answers to the questions above are not yet available. In the meantime, we are learning animal sounds (seal barking was added today) and focusing on smaller questions to stay employed and well fed.
